Enriching lives through participation in music

The 12 Days of Winter

As winter holidays approach most often traditions become a popular topic. Traditions may take place with work, family, or friends. I like to have clients share what their favorite traditions are during the winter through songwriting. Traditions could be sledding, buying presents, drinking hot chocolate, baking, watching holiday movies, cutting firewood, etc.

Take some time to brainstorm your favorite traditions by yourself, with your friends, or with your family. Then use a template to the right to fill in your traditions. You can easily adapt the lyrics to fill in a specific holiday, person, or group of people.

Then try singing it to the tune of “12 Days of Christmas.”

I find that traditions may be a sensitive topic with some clients, specifically inpatient behavioral health. During the winter our template is called “12 Days of Discharge” and we discuss steps and skills they must acquire with their care team to work towards discharge. You can see that template below.

What are YOUR favorite winter traditions?
